The Bvlgari Resort Dubai project for was our first collaboration with Studio Citterio and Metis Lighting – a success story that evolved into a long-standing partnership. The challenge was to create a collection of one-of-a-kind pieces to furnish and illuminate the newly opened resort.
Bvlgari Resort Dubai
overview
Shaping distinction.
After dozens of companies and suppliers had deemed some of their requests impossible to produce, we won the commission by presenting highly detailed technical drawings. The rest is history – a series of custom-made chandeliers and designer lamps that, over the years, have become an artistic benchmark in the luxury lighting world.
The Challenge
Iconic pieces that illuminate, furnish, and stir emotion. Light sculptures inspired by the elegance of the Bvlgari brand.
Taking our cue from the concept and design specifications developed by Metis Lighting and ACPV Architecs, we oversaw executive development of the project in its entirety – from material selection and prototyping to the production and installation of every lighting element envisioned by the project.
- Ring
Two bronze structures, each two meters in diameter, set with crystal blocks arranged in a 20 × 20 grid, forming a chandelier that, when seen from below, recalls a Bvlgari chronograph, and from the side, a bracelet. - Oval
Chandelier in carbon fiber with a steel frame, featuring diffused uplighting and spotlights directed downward. Weighing 70 kg and measuring 320 × 160 cm, it appears flat yet reveals a trapezoidal profile in section. - Appliques Etoile
Suspension lamps created using a highly sophisticated blown-glass technique. - Lanterns
Suitable for outdoor use or highlighting room numbers, they are crafted in brass mesh bearing the Bvlgari signature pattern. - Bedside Lamps
Bedside lamps with fabric shades, inspired by a late-18th-century silver candelabra. Each piece was hand-measured and cast in chrome-plated brass, with the logo delicately engraved. - Yacht Club Chandeliers and Lamps
Yacht Club chandeliers and lamps, designed to recall the essence of a lighthouse, with large Fresnel glass blocks framed by a minimalist steel structure.
The Solution
A project that elevated lighting design to a defining feature of Bvlgari hotels worldwide.
Creating each piece required overcoming significant technical challenges, from engraving the Bvlgari logo on the ring chandelier using an aerospace-grade milling cutter – the same used for helicopter blades – to the complex working of Fresnel glass, later cast with an iron mold, and managing the weight of suspended lighting fixtures on steel cables.
Yet the investment of energy, R&D, and expertise in crafting each lighting element has paid off over time. Many of the pieces created for the Bvlgari Resort Dubai are now included in a limited production series for Bvlgari locations worldwide. These unique creations have become a standard in the brand’s lighting design projects.
